Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at the proposed site of an extension to a college, and a limited amount of research was undertaken to augment the findings of an earlier desk-based assessment. The assessment had identified a potential for archaeological remains associated with medieval occupation, a post-medieval formal garden and post-medieval house plots to be present within the site. During the evaluation, no archaeological features, structures or deposits pre-dating the post-medieval period were revealed. Shallow scoops and a brick-built wall of post-medieval date were noted, but were considered to be of no significance. 18th-19th century pottery and a residual medieval sherd were recovered. It was concluded that further archaeological work in connection with the proposed development would not be warranted. [AIP] |
