Abstract: |
The survey of the impressive earthwork determined the extent of the smaller and later west bailey, much assisted by air photographs. The larger east bailey had a well-spread internal bank, and adjoined the town ditch. To the west of the Castle, a substantial ditch and bank were likely to have been a medieval park boundary, with some rather degraded internal features which may have been associated with fishponds and/or alder cultivation.
