Abstract: |
A number of houses were to be built on an area of land at Herrington Stables. An archaeological assessment of the site had revealed evidence of prehistoric activity in the surrounding area, and some indications of medieval occupation. A watching brief was carried out during groundworks for the first phase of building. Evidence of recent stable and farm buildings was observed. A medieval ploughsoil was present over much of the site. No discrete features were seen in this deposit or in the areas of subsoil exposed below it. No further archaeological work was recommended as part of this development scheme. [Au(abr)] |
