Abstract: |
The evaluation identified a well-maintained medieval routeway, paved and bounded by fences, with cobbled yards from adjacent properties backing straight on to the road boundary. On the southern side of the routeway were the remains of a medieval house with a hearth, rubbish pits and a yard. Artefacts recovered from this part of the site suggested that there was good preservation of activity the areas and workshops. On the northern side of the routeway lay the enclosure of a medieval manorial site. A number of Roman features, including rubbish pits, had also been recognised. [Au] |
