Abstract: |
An earthwork survey was undertaken on a series of earthworks within the grounds of Hinxton Hall. The main area of earthworks comprised a hollow way, and a series of rectilinear enclosures and adjacent platforms. The holloway corresponded to a track on the 1799 OS draft 1" map. Documentary evidence suggested occupation of the site in the seventeenth century, although the alignment of the earthworks, which was similar to that of a Late Saxon settlement, may have suggested an earlier date.
