Abstract: |
Survey and recording were undertaken in advance of demolition of a building followed by a watching brief during demoltion. The survey showed that considerable elements of the external walls of the Manor House had survived incorporated into the fabric of the offices and workshops. The walls of the original house were probably constructed in one phase, although extensive alterations had occured with the conversion of the building into offices. Part of the cellar was identified as having functioned as an air raid shelter during the Second World War. During demolition no features earlier than the 19th century were found. Two mortars were observed within the fabric of the walls and two large reused timbers with tenon joints were noted. [Auth adap] |
