Abstract: |
A series of three trenches were excavated across the boundary to investigate the potential survival of buried archaeological and palaeoenvironmental deposits beneath the hedgebank. The excavation of trench 2 revealed that the ground level either side of the bank had been raised by the dumping of modern stony material. To the north east of the bank was a shallow contemporaneous ditch. Sealed beneath the bank was two post holes, each containing stone packing and post pipes. No artefacts or datable material was recovered from their fills. Trench 3 showed the bank, like in trench 2, to be constructed of redeposited sandy clay natural. No buried soil was preserved, and no artefacts were recovered. [Au(adp)] |
