Abstract:
The excavation of trial pits within Midsummer Common was undertaken within an area of land close to the historic town centre. The archaeological potential of the site was deemed to be high due to this and to the proximity of the site to prehistoric findspots. Nothing of archaeological significance was revealed although the discovery of alluvial clays provided valuable environmental samples. [AIP]
