Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during construction work within a moated area at the Old Fold Manor Golf Club. The manor was probably first established in the mid 12th century, with the moat possibly being dug as early as the late 13th century. During construction work, little archaeological material was disturbed although some features, including the fill of the moat and the remnants of a brick floor, were observed and recorded. Observations confirmed that the site was a rectangular moated enclosure with a raised internal island, and that evidence for several building phases could survive. [Au(abr)] |
