Abstract:		 An evaluation was carried out at a proposed development site which lay within 300m of Reading Abbey, and near to the postulated site of a fortified Viking camp. A linear feature containing post-medieval materials was revealed, which was interpreted as a 19th century land drain. A total absence of residual materials pre-dating this suggested that no earlier deposits remained outside the trench margins. [AIP]
