Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out during the construction of 14 dwellings on the site of a former garage and adjacent land in the village of Highclere. This report represented the results of work carried out from 2003-2004. A recent study suggested that this part of Highclere may have been occupied prior to the 19th century. The results of the watching brief were entirely negative . This may partly have been a product of previous construction on the site. However, this had not affected the southern end of the development area, where the lack of evidence for past settlement almost certainly reflected a genuine absence, rather than the result of differential survival.
