Abstract: |
Consultation of documentary and map-based archives had identified no recorded archaeological deposits within the application area predating its post-medieval agricultural history as reclaimed heathland. The application area did, however, lie within the Frome Valley which had yielded evidence elsewhere for prehistoric activity on the terrace gravels. Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age occupation evidence had been recorded, in advance of gravel extraction, approxiately 1.5km south-west of the study area, whilst several ploughed-out and extant round barrows lay in the vicininty of the study area. It was possible that some currently unrecorded archaeological remains might have existed within the application area, given the presence of archaeological features in the Frome Valley and its environs.
