Abstract: |
An archaeological trial trench evaluation was undertaken in advance of the construction of three houses on the site. In view of numerous important discoveries of prehistoric material that had been made along the River Brent, and the discovery of Saxon finds from near the site, an archaeological planning condition requiring archaeological investigation before construction was imposed on the planning consent. A single trench was excavated. The sequence of deposits was natural sterile waterlain clay, with some gravel, overlain by a subsoil, which was overlain by post-medieval earth. Both the subsoil and the post-medieval earth contained 19th century pottery. The report concluded that there was no need for any further archaeological measures in relation to the proposed redevelopment. [Au(abr)] |
