Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken in relation to a proposed development. The site fell within an Area of Archaeological Significance, but did not contain any SAM's or Listed Buildings. The area was known for the presence of prehistoric remains, with further evidence seen in aerial photography, crop marks and previous excavations. There were some references relating to later periods for this area within the SMR, as the area did fully begin to develop until the 20th century. AOC recommended that an archaeological evaluation be conducted to determine the presence or absence of any prehistoric remains upon areas of the site, shown by geotechnical investigations, not to have been affected by previous development. However, the final decision rested with Mr Tony Howe the County Archaeologist at Surrey County Council. [Au(abr)] |
