Abstract: |
An archaeological field evaluation was undertaken in advance of proposed residential development. An initial field visit was followed by geophysical survey of sample areas of the site. A series of archaeological trial trenches was then excavated in order to both investigate features identified through the field visit and geophysical survey and to provide a random sample of the archaeological potential of the site. Ten trial trenches were investigated, which revealed evidence relating to post-medieval mining operations on the site and the subsequent use of the land for agricultural purposes. No firm evidence of anthropogenic utilisation of the site prior to the post-medieval period was encountered. [Au(abr)] |
