Abstract: |
A preliminary archaeological study of the area of the proposed route of a bypass scheme identified six sites of high archaeological importance/potential. These comprised a Romano-British road and bloomery site, the parish church of St Nicholas, the moated site to the north of Old Place Farm, earthworks associated with the medieval settlement of Iham on the western fringes of Winchelsea, St Leonards Well, and the moated site at Lower Snailham. Eleven sites of medium importance and thriteen sites of low importance were also highlighted. [AIP] |
