Abstract:		 The watching brief was carried out in advance of the renewal of the water mains in the area of a recently discovered Roman site. Although the route of the water main was altered to avoid damage to one of the large Roman furnace structures, evidence of Roman interaction with the site was noted below the modern road surface.
