Abstract: |
The archaeological observation of groundworks associated with a trench for a new water main, revealed a uniform sequence of strata, with a layer of dark brown soil that contained post-medieval pottery and bones and one large timber, beneath the road and its hardcore. There were also the remains of a stone drain and a small area of cobbling. At the western end of chapel street, was a darker layer of silty soil that contained burnt material and 16th century pottery. [Au(adp)] |
