Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during groundworks undertaken around the south porch of a Grade I Listed Norman church. Two of the three trenches excavated exposed the lower courses of the wall of the porch; evidence of a possible rebuild line was noted within the east wall. Numerous loose fragments of human bone were collected and a number of graves were observed, which were left undisturbed where possible. Of four, which were investigated further, three were found to have been cut by each other and by later graves, suggesting that a considerable period of time had elapsed between burials. It was considered likely that these burials were medieval. [AIP] |
