Abstract: |
An evaluation prior to construction of a university building revealed post-medieval tanning pits, but no evidence for earlier settlement or activity. As the area falls within the probable area of the Anglo-Saxon burh, it is probable that the area was marginal land and not exploited until its use in the tanning industry. [AIP] |
