Abstract: |
A desk top study of a proposed development site was undertaken. Aerial photographs of the site taken in 1947 showed several faint linear cropmarks, which may have been pre-19th century boundaries or earlier features. Further cropmark sites lay in the surrounding area. Features included several enclosures, one possibly of Iron Age date, possible trackways, a ring ditch and a possible Neolithic cursus. An early medieval cemetery lay to the east of the site, and a scatter of worked flints had been recorded to the south. It was concluded that evidence of prehistoric, Romano-British and early medieval settlement could be present at the site. [AIP] |
