Abstract: |
Although previous archaeological observations within the Brewery boundaries have been limited, synthesis of readily available sources of information have indicated that the site lay in an area of high multi-period archaeological potential. The site fell within the important Neolithic and Bronze Age ritual and funerary landscape of the South Dorset Ridgeway. The site lay immediately to the south of the Roman town of Dunovaria, and the western site boundary comprised a former Roman road. Excavations at the Station Master's House (south-west corner of the site) uncovered a roadside ditch running parallel to Weymouth Avenue. A high potential for individual or grouped Roman burials was indicated.[Au(abr)] |
