Abstract: |
A watching brief was maintained during the excavation of foundation trenches for a new sports hall located within the grounds of a moated site. The south-west foundation pit revealed 3.6 metres of made ground, mostly comprising redeposited alluvial clay containing building rubble and modern brick. The layers were redeposited in a cut sloping steeply to the north. The foundation pit 3.5 metres to the north revealed a much shallower sequence, indicating that the edge of the infilled moat probably lay between the two foundation pits. [Au (adp)] |
