Abstract: |
A desk top assessment of a proposed development site where medieval ridge and furrow had been recorded was undertaken. Two Neolithic axes, a Bronze Age occupation site, a Roman farmstead and Roman burials had been found in the area. A possible Roman road passed nearby. An early medieval sunken-featured building had been excavated at a Roman site 1.3km to the south-east. The site itself had belonged to the medieval manor of Shephall, the original house having been situated to the east of the most recent, 19th century, building. It was concluded that the site had potential for Iron Age and Roman remains. [AIP] |
