Abstract: |
Three evaluation trenches revealed no significant archaeology. Natural terrace gravels and chalk bedrock were identified. Within the upper stratigraphy a series of recent furnace deposits, which dated from c1962 were identified. Underlying these was substantial medieval/post-medieval soil deposits. Significant paleoenvironmental deposits, including peat and terrace gravels were noted. It was recommended that these peat deposits be sampled for a full pollen diagram and that a record be made of the macro fossils present within the peat sequence. It was also recommeded that a watching brief be carried out prior to deveopment. [Au(adp)] |
