Abstract: |
A single 10.0m by 2.0m trench was excavated as an archaeological evaluation in response to a condition upon planning permission for development of the site. The trench revealed no archaeological features, structures or ground surfaces older than the 18th/19th centuries. A probable 18th century land surface was uncovered with a gravel path/road orientated north-west to south-east, situated in the middle of the site. To the west of this path was a 'garden soil' containing bricks and pegtile fragments. These surfaces were overlain by a thick, modern 'garden soil' which formed the present ground surface. As the site had been overgrown, root disturbance and recent tree grubbing out was evident. The report concluded that no further archaeological work was required. [Au(adp)] |
