Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment identified that in the area around a playing field proposed for a housing development numerous archaeological sites, especially of the Romano-British and medieval periods, had been previously recorded, although no archaeological sites had previously identified on the development site itself. The long-term use of the land as arable and pasture fields was thought to have protected earlier archaeological deposits although it was possible that modern land drains inserted to drain the playing fields reduced the archaeological potential of the site.
