Abstract: |
Trial trenching was undertaken on land to the north of the Old Hall. Significant remains were recorded in all of the trenches, dating from the 12th century to the present day. The development of the site was traced with building activity being evident in the 12th century with a slump in activity during the 13th and early 14th century, this being backed up by documentary evidence which recorded a weakened mercantile community in Hedon at that time. A structure of 18th century date was also revealed to the rear of Old Hall, which had destroyed any evidence of earlier acitvity within that part of the site. [AIP] |
