Abstract: |
Two hand-excavated test-pits were excavated at Wooton Bassett Town Hall to investigate the possibility that earlier floors or significant archaeological deposits existed beneath the present concrete surface at depths which might be affected by resurfacing. There was extensive 19th century disturbance to a considerable depth over much of the area. However, the report contains a number of caveats stressing that - as the disturbance was not uniform across the site - it was considered possible (although perhaps unikely) that earlier floors or other deposits might survive locally over restricted areas.
