Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out in response to a planning condition for residential development. Six trenches were excavated. Trench 5 contained a small number of archaeological features of Middle Iron Age date. The remaining trenches all contained ditches, some of which were dated by finds to the post-medieval period although a number contained no dating evidence, but based on their alignments were thought to be post-medieval. Four small pits or post holes and a narrow, shallow ditches were exposed in other trenches but no finds were present. The features were all sealed beneath a layer of subsoil and were assumed to be of Iron Age date. The middle Iron Age activity may have continued beyond the impact area of the development to the south and west but appeared to be very sparsely scattered. [Au(abr)] |
