Abstract: |
A measured survey of the Eleven Acres Pond confirmed a previous assessment of this site as a medieval pond with an efficient system of diversion channels allowing it to be drained down for management, and at times of fishing. The pond was shown to have had a maximum depth of about 2m. The dam bank was over 3m in height, 20m across, and 220m in length. The pond was drained and it is thought that linear ditches cut into the former pond bed were created in response to 20th century conditions. [Au(adp)] |
