Abstract: |
An evaluation, consisting of a geophysical survey, topographic survey and the excavation of three trial trenches, was undertaken in advance of proposed developments. The evaluation revealed buried remains (pits and a possible slot) associated with pottery dating to the mid 11th to the 13th century. Such remains were of archaeological interest as they had rarely been seen before in this part of the Midlands in a rural context. There were also post-medieval features relating to enclosure and agricultural activity. Cartographic evidence suggested that the field had been used as an orchard for at least the past 200 years.
