Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out at the rear of the National Westminster Bank, during ground works associated with the remodelling of the premises. The remains of a building, a boundary wall and an associated mortared yard surface were recorded. The brick type indicated a Georgian date for these structures. A circular brick soakaway was cut into the yard surface in the 19th century. Documentary evidence strongly suggested that the house was built in or shortly after 1727. No earlier archaeological remains were encountered. [Au(abr)] |
