Abstract: |
The aims of the second phase of the evaluation, were to define more closely the extent of the archaeology, both medieval and Iron Age, and resolve the uncertainty about the walls' origins as the grange ruin. The eastern extent of the large E-W wall was established and another N-S length found. The second length of wall was contemporary with the first and ran at right angles to it. A large ditch running E-W pre-dated the walls, several lengths of the ditch were excavated and while animal bones were found no pottery with which to suggest an actual date was recovered. A clay structure, possibly a corn drier, was also found and this contained late-medieval greyware pottery. [Au(abr)] |
