Abstract:
The assessment concluded that small areas appeared to have functioned as yards or car spaces and to have been devoid of buildings in the recent past. It is in these areas of least disturbance that any archaeological deposits are most likely to survive. The presence of gravel and overlying silts in trial holes confirmed that the site once lay within the floodplain of the Exe. Evidence may be found of former water channels, both natural and artificial (e.g. mill leats), possibly containing palaeoenvironmental and waterlogged deposits. [Au(adp)]
