Abstract: |
Two trial trenches, 5.2m by 2.3m and 3m by 3m, were excavated on the site of the former 17th century chapel attached to Culverthorpe Hall prior to its rebuilding. The treches confirmed the presence of north and south wall foundations belonging to an extant chapel facade. Following the destruction of the monument, it appeared that the extant facade was haphazardly added to in the 19th century, probably to create a folly. Material evidence collected during the evaluation would assist the site owner with an attempt to reconstruct the original monument in time for, and in celebration of, the millenium. [Au(adp)] |
