Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring and excavation was undertaken within the car park at Stonehenge, in advance of construction work associated with the upgrading of the existing toilet and storage facilities. Islands of remnant natural soil horizons were revealed in the northern and western areas of the compound, between extensive and sometimes deep modern disturbances. The eastern area appeared to have been stripped and cleaned previously; no natural soil horizons survived above chalk. No archaeological features were revealed cut into the natural chalk, although small quantities of struck flint were recovered from the remnant subsoil layers. [Au(abr)] |
