Abstract: |
The watching brief was undertaken during the construction of an agricultural building on the site. The site lay on or near the suspected site of a medieval grange, and to the east of a demolished 19th century farm. A number of walls were exposed by the groundworks, some of which could have been associated with field boundaries shown on early maps, while others were from a number of abutting, probably post-medieval structures. One possible architectural fragment of uncertain, but possibly medieval, date was discovered built into one of the walls. Some areas of slag residue were also identified although it was possible that they were brought in to act as hardcore. [Au(adp)] |
