Abstract: |
It was shown that the proposed development site had suffered little development prior to the levelling and landscaping undertaken to form a playing field for the school, having been downland prior to the creation of the Park in the 18th century. It was found that the line of one of the three Ha-Ha's within the Park crossed the proposal area. It was also shown that, whilst situated away from the line of the Civil War defences, the site's position in relation to "Washington's Breach", suggested the possibility of finds of this period within the proposal area.
