Abstract: |
During the work, the remains of three human skeletons were recovered for re-burial at St. Mary's church. These burials appeared to have been associated with the 13th century Franciscan Friary that had stood on the site. A stone built plinth and associated wall foundation, both still in situ, were also discovered and it seemed likely that these represented part of a building belonging to the Friary complex. It was likely therefore that the burials were placed within or at least very close to Friary buildings, presumably the church or cloisters. Re-used medieval masonry was seen to have made up much of the foundations of the mid-19th century buildings on the site. [Au(abr)] |
