Abstract: |
The evaluation comprised the excavation of three trenches. The site contained the remains of buildings fronting onto Station Road, refuse pits connected with occupation of these buildings, and boundary ditches. Significant plant macrofossil evidence was present, as well as a number of metal artefacts. A significant pottery assemblage was recovered from features in all three trenches, dating from mid 11th to later 13th/early 14th centuries; the lack of material after this date may indicate that land use changed at this time, after which the site was used for agricultural purposes.
