Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken prior to proposed developments. There were no known archaeological finds within the site, but due to the location on the river terrace gravel's it had the potential for archaeology dating up to and including the Bronze Age period and would have been sealed from disturbance and well preserved. It was thought that from the early medieval period onwards the site would have been used as meadowland, which would have been liable to seasonal flooding. It is therefore unlikely that any later occupation will be present, although there might be some remains associated with the seasonal use of this pasture. It was not until the building of the Industrial Estate in the 1960s that the land was built up sufficiently to prevent seasonal flooding. The geotechnical survey recorded made-ground overlying the alluvium. It was concluded that intrusive construction would have an impact on any potential archaeological deposits present. [Au(adp)] |
