Abstract:
Salvage recording identified a number of features comprising both earthworks and below ground features. These appeared to relate to sub-division of the land (plot or field boundaries) and cultivation (ridge and furrow). The project had demonstrated that the agricultural landscape of Crowle extended to the edge of School Lane between the 17th to 18th centuries. This arrangement appeared to have been superseded by the laying-out of smaller plots in the early 19th century, perhaps for an expansion of the village that never subsequently took place. [AIP]
