Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out prior to the determination of planning permission for the proposed construction of a Park and Ride. Thirteen archaeological trenches were machine excavated within the proposed development area. The evaluation established the presence of 47 archaeological features, eight of which were dated to the Romano-British period. The archaeological features were cut through the natural geological deposits and were encountered at as little as 0.38m below the present ground level. The majority of the features were considered to relate to Romano-British agricultural practices, of which three separate phases were identified, however, some of the undated features may have been earlier in date.
