Abstract: |
Geophysical surveys were undertaken over two areas of arable land to the north of Kilton, on the route of a gas pipeline. A geomagnetic technique, fluxgate gradiometry, was used. The surveys detected probable ditch remains in both areas. The partial remains of ring ditches were identified in the westernmost area surveyed (KTL01). These may have been associated with Iron Age round houses. Ridge and furrow cultivation remains, presumed to have been medieval in origin, were also detected in the eastern survey area (KCB01). It was recommended that further investigations, in the form of trial trenching, be carried out over the probable ditch remains in order to establish the dates and functions of these features.
