Abstract: |
<summary>An excavation was carried out on a small site on the north-east side of Wimbledon Village. The site lay close to the position of the Elizabethan manor house ({italon}circa{italoff} 1588-1721), and certainly within the area of the associated formal garden. The excavation revealed undisturbed London Clay directly below fairly modern dumping. However, this sequence can be related to recorded 18th century landscaping. In conjunction with documentary records, the investigation also suggested a reassessment of the location of the Elizabethan manor. {italon}AIP{italoff}{spacea}{italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} GLSMR021831 |
