Abstract: |
The archaeological watching brief revealed a rectangular pit, filled with a matrix of loose brown soil which contained fragments of chalk, flint, glass and brick debris. A second circular negative feature was observed in the north-western corner of the site which had been cut by a 19th century boundary wall and was probably of post-medieval date. Observation of the foundations on the northern part of the site recorded made up ground. Brick built features that appeared to have once formed an integral part of no.36 High Street were observed. The type of bricks looked pre-19th century although the fill was clearly much later c. late 19th-early 20th century. [Au(adp)] |
