Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment of the proposed site of a sports complex, which was to replace an existing complex, identified that a ring ditch of probable Bronze Age date was visible on aerial photographs of the site. The probable line of a Roman road passed 300m to the south. In the wider surrounding area, three further ring ditches, two undated enclosures, Roman ditches and evidence of Neolithic and Iron Age occupation had been recorded. Examination of maps dating from 1672 to 1959 indicated that the site itself had lain within open ground during this period. A watching brief was subsequently carried out during groundworks at the site. [AIP] |
