Abstract: |
The site of the proposed works lay within an area of remarkable prehistoric and Roman activity. In close vicinity, in addition to the Roman road and related features, much evidence had been found for a settlement of Roman or prehistoric date. The extent of the ground disturbance within the pipeline route was uncertain, due to the unknown limits of former gravel extraction/tipping operations. However, if the ground were not greatly disturbed there would be the potential for the survival of significant archaeological remains.[Au(abr)] |
