Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment was undertaken of the estate at Westwick Row following the designation of certain areas as an important early manorial complex. The methodology included the study of the SMR and documentary sources in addition to the drawing together of earlier assessments and archaeology including a geophysical survey identifying possible sites for a tithe barn at Westwick Cottage. Archaeological activity across the estate ranged from a Bronze Age hoard and possible associated flint scatter through to a conjectured Romano-British site and a long-standing medieval settlement containing at least two, possibly three buildings, of high status. In addition to outlining the historical and archaeological background of the site the report outlined a possible management strategy. [Au(adp)] |
